One of the most widespread and favorite chain of franchised restaurants worldwide was founded in the mid-60s and since then its popularity has continued to grow. Subway belongs to American Society of Doctor's Associates, Inc., and currently you can enjoy Subway´s menu in almost 44 thousand branches worldwide.
The company was founded by Fred DeLuca, who borrowed $ 1,000 from his friend to be able to establish a restaurant selling sandwiches. And it really worked! A year later, with the same friend, Dr. Peter Buck, they founded the company that today own Subway. The first Subway franchise was opened in 1974; the first branch outside the US was in Bahrain in 1984. Since then, the number of restaurants continues to grow and Subway plans to have even 50,000 restaurants until 2018. Subway is popular because of its excellent sandwiches, which are made of fresh vegetables, meat and bread, which is baked in their own bakery. And the little interest at the end: the word "subway" is translated into mandarin language as "tastes better than others."
