When Dominique Mandonnaud opened his first perfume in France in 1969, perfumes and beauty products were hidden behind the counter, where the sellers too jealously guarded them. The signal was clear. Let´s buy without trying! Mandonnaud brought revolution in the sales of cosmetics. He brought cosmetic products into the area behind the counter throughout the whole store. He gave to customers a freedom to move around the store, try the products, touch them, smell to them and freely explore. Sephora model has completely changed the retail sale of cosmetics. Thus a unique environment for experimentation and discovery arisen. The place for finding your own unique beauty. Sephora expansion was rapid and successful: in 1998, first stores were opened in Spain, Italy, Portugal and Poland, and a year later in the US. Next year, were opened new stores in Romania and Greece, since 2008 Sephora is also available in South Asia and since 2010 also in Latin America. Sephora stores, which are since 1997 part of the prestigious LVMH family, now can be found throughout Europe as well as North and South America, the Middle East and Asia. Sephora in numbers: 17 000 products offered in around 300 stores in France and 2,000 worldwide, 30,000 employees, including 4,000 in France.
