Staples was founded in the mid eighties in the last century by Tom Stemberg, who broke his typewriter ribbon during the writing business proposal. The problem was that it happened during the holiday weekend, so Tom could not find a store where he could get his typewriter to repair or buy a new ribbon. And so the saving idea ripened! Tom decided to establish a supermarket for office products. It took him less than a year than he opened the first store of this type in which the office supplies were easily accessible anytime and for anyone.
