GNC(General Nutrition Corporation) is a popular American commercial enterprise, which focuses on the retail sale of vitamins, supplements, sports nutrition, diet, minerals, herbs and energy products. Its founder is David Shakarian, who decided to make his dream come true in 1935, and founded a small health food store in Pittsburgh. Lackzoom, what was the store name, was specialized in yogurt, honey and grains. After 6 months, Shakarian was able to open another store. People were the most interested in a health food in the 60s – in this decade Shakarian opened new stores in other states in USA and changed the name of company to GNC - General Nutrition Centers. In the early 80s there were about 1,000 GNC stores, and GNC even began to produce its own vitamins and mineral supplements. Currently GNC is the largest global specialty retailer of nutrition products.
