Hurley brand was founded in 1999 as a company that devises, designs, manufactures and develops athletic shoes, clothes, hats, sports equipment and accessories with orientation on surf. The company was founded by Bob Hurley, who had extensive experience with surfing and originally began his career in the late '70s as a surfboards´ retailer. Subsequently, he strongly participated in the success of the Billabong brand in the US and in 1999 he decided to establish his own label – it is now focused on sportswear not only for men, but also for women and children. In 2002 Hurley brand was bought by Nike.
